Lysine is one of eight essential amino acids the rest are: phenylalanine, tryptophan, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, valine and threonine. The amino acids lysine and proline are involved in collagen synthesis. These two amino acids require the mineral zinc, vitamin C and adequate tissue levels of oxygen to form collagen.
